A heliport beacon is essential when long-distance visual guidance is required and no other visual aids are available, or when identifying the heliport is difficult due to surrounding lights. It should be installed above or near the heliport, preferably in an elevated position, to prevent the pilot from being dazzled during short-range approach phases.
If the orientation of the beacon could cause glare, it must be switched off during the final stages of approach and landing to ensure pilot safety. The beacon emits a flashing white light beam that clearly identifies the letter H in Morse code, providing a clear and recognizable visual signal for air traffic.
